The text of document 15C/858/FDIS, future edition 2 of IEC 60454-3-8, prepared by SC 15C, Specifications, of IEC TC 15, Insulating materials, was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel vote and was approved by CENELEC as EN 60454-3-8 on 1998-04-01.
The following dates were fixed:

INTRODUCTION
This International Standard is one of a series which deals with pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes, intended primarily for electrical purposes.
The series consists of three parts:
- Part 1: General requirements (IEC 60454-1).
- Part 2: Methods of test (IEC 60454-2).
- Part 3: Specifications for individual materials (IEC 60454-3).
This standard contains one of the sheets comprising part 3 as follows:

1 Généralités
1.1 Domaine d'application
La présente feuille de la CEI 60454-3 contient les prescriptions relatives aux rubans avec adhésifs sensibles à la pression réalisés en tissu de verre.
Les matériaux qui sont conformes à cette spécification satisfont à des niveaux de performances établis. Cependant, il convient que le choix d'un matériau par un utilisateur et pour une application particulière soit fondé sur les prescriptions réelles nécessaires pour obtenir les performances satisfaisantes pour cette application, et non pas fondé sur cette seule spécification.
1.2 Références normatives
Les documents normatifs suivants contiennent des dispositions qui, par suite de la référence qui y est faite, constituent des dispositions valables pour la présente feuille de la CEI 60454-3. Au moment de la publication, les éditions indiquées étaient en vigueur. 1 General
1.1 Scope
The sheet of IEC 60454-3 contains the requirements for pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes made with glass fabric.
Materials which conform to this specification meet established levels of performance. However, the selection of a material by a user for a specific application should be based on the actual requirements necessary for adequate performance in that application, and not based on this specification alone.
